By default, Windows doesn't typically set your default email client application (Outlook, Gmail, etc.) when you setting up a new computer. This can be a confusing process to setup if you haven't done it before. The purpose of this article is to attempt to help clear up some confusion when setting this up.
On LSNPros.com, when clicking on the Refer by Email button from a PROs profile page, your browser may not be properly configured to open the templated email in your favorite email app.
Default Setup for webmail email handling (i.e. Gmail)
Depending on the browser you're using and the email app you wish to use, the instructions on setting this up can vary. If you are using a webmail program that supports the email protocol, when you open the webmail app in your browser (i.e. mail.google.com for Gmail) you should be presented with a double diamond iconin the address bar of your browser. Clicking on this feature will open up a dialog menu providing you with the ability to allow your webmail email app the ability to open all email links including those used on LSNPros.com.
Troubleshooting
If, for whatever reason, the double diamond iconis not available, you will need to review your protocol settings to make sure it wasn't previously Denied or Ignored. The location of the handler settings is different depending on your browser.
- In Chrome, see this help page from Google on how to access your Email Protocol Settings.
- In Firefox, access the Settings menu and scroll down to Applications. The right column for the mailto setting will indicate which program is currently set to open when clicking on email links.
- On Microsoft Edge, access the Settings menu and then select Cookies and site Permissions. Next, scroll down and select Protocol Handlers. From here, make sure Allow sites to ask to become default handlers for protocols (recommended) is enabled. Also, if your email client is listed under the Blocked section, click the associated trash can icon to remove it from the block list. Finally, go back up to the section Default Setup for webmail email handling (i.e. Gmail) in this document to set your default email app now that you've cleared the block.
- Note: If the double diamond icon
is still not available after following the above instructions, consider clearing your cookies and site settings in your browser's settings.
